A Beacon of Generosity:
Steven Lim’s Journey to Empower NTU Students

Mr. Steven Lim, Chief Executive of RSTN Consulting and an alumnus of NTU (Nanyang Technological University), overcame significant financial hardships to achieve business success. Despite facing challenges such as his father’s gambling addiction and his struggle to finance his education, Steven persevered through multiple jobs to fund his university education and eventually became the Group CEO of RSTN Consulting.

After a near-death experience with a heart attack in 2010, Steven committed himself to giving back, especially to students facing financial difficulties. He established the RSTN Scholarship and Bursary Fund in 2021, with an initial pledge of S$1 million, and recently made another substantial donation to NTU’s Endowment Fund. His philanthropy has been recognized with the dedication of the 林芝锋 Lin Zhi Feng Seminar Room in Gaia, NTU’s newest zero-energy building, which serves as a token of appreciation for Steven Lim’s generosity. This naming ceremony is significant as it marks the first facility dedication within Gaia, highlighting Steven Lim’s commitment to advancing education and supporting students in need.

Steven’s dedication to helping students extends beyond financial contributions. He actively mentors scholarship recipients, emphasizing community, encouragement, and giving back. He shared five keys to success, such as passion, belief, strategy, good health, and networking, inspiring students like Paul Solomon Low and Ivan Tan to pay it forward. As an NTU alumnus, Steven Lim feels deeply connected to the university and believes in the importance of giving back. He emphasizes the notion of “paying it forward”, expressing his hope that current students will one day become donors themselves, thereby continuing the cycle of support for needy students.

Steven finds great fulfillment in generosity and actively encourages financially capable alumni to contribute to NTU. He emphasizes that every contribution, regardless of size, contributes significantly to the betterment of NTU and the students it serves. His story is a beacon of resilience, generosity, and the transformative power of education and philanthropy.
